Make pancakes and eat them too

blueberry pancakes with honey

We may have just had pancake day whizz past us, but you know what? Just because it isn’t pancake day, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up on indulging yourself in these delicious little treats. That said, the only problem with pancakes is that they can be a little plain, sometimes just a bit of sugar and lemon is all you need, but what if you want to make your pancakes even tastier as well as maybe a little on the healthy side?

To inspire you to create some delicious recipes yourself at home, we have put together some amazing ways that you can make your pancakes and make sure that you look forward to eating them too.

The basics

Before we start to think about how to jazz up your pancakes, let’s remind ourselves on how to make a basic pancake mixture. You need 1 egg, 125g of plain flour and 300ml of milk. This should make a few pancakes, and as long as you have the perfect frying pan and some oil, then you have everything that you need to make delicious pancakes.

Red Velvet Pancakes

Who says that Red Velvet has to stay in cakes? We don’t think so! If you want to make an indulgent pancake to enjoy as a special treat, then why not add a cup of cocoa to your pancake batter as well as a drop of red food colouring? You could even top these pancakes with cream cheese frosting to really make sure that they have that authentic flavouring.

Cinnamon Apple

Now this pancake idea takes a little more effort, but we definitely think it is worth it in the long run. You need to cook your pancake as you normally would, but before you flip it over you should place a ring of apple on the uncooked side. This apple should be pushed in firmly so that the batter forms around it. You will need to make sure that you allow your pancake to fully cook before you flip, else you could end up with an issue.

To create the topping for this pancake you should combine half a cup of flour, half a cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 6 tablespoons of cubed butter. This should all be rubbed together to create a crumb mix that you sprinkle over your cooked pancake.

Bacon and Maple Syrup

For some people, the idea of adding meat to their pancake may sound like the worst idea ever, but in actual fact, bacon and maple syrup is a popular topping for them. You need to make pancakes in the normal way, but rather than popping on some sugar, add some beautifully crispy streaky bacon. You can take things up a level by drizzling over some maple syrup which will really make sure that your pancake is transformed.

As you can see, pancakes don’t have to be boring, why not think about ways that you can spice things up a little bit and maybe you will want to celebrate pancake each and every day of the year?

Speak soon.
